You must apply for your license after you pass your exam. You apply online through an organization called National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).

Consider working with your supervisor, contact the New York Department of Financial Services, or email us or give us a call at 800-270-1385 and we can point you in the right direction. However, remember that the New York Department of Financial Services is the official agency in New York that you should rely on for information regarding insurance licensing matters.

Make sure you obtain your fingerprinting through IndentoGO immediately before you apply for your license, as the NYDFS only has access to your fingerprint data for 45 days. If the fingerprinting data is stale, you will have to spend another fee and get your fingerprinting done again.
